An Autobiography

David Ogilvy

An Autobiography David Ogilvy Wiley. Wiley. "I remembered how my grandfather had failed as a farmer and become a successful businessman. Why not follow in his footsteps? Why not start an advertising agency? I was thirty-eight... no credentials, no clients, and only $6,000 in the bank." Whatever David Ogilvy may have lacked in money and credentials, he more than made up for with intelligence, talent, and ingenuity. He became the quintessential ad man, a revolutionary whose impact on his profession still reverberates today. His brilliant campaigns went beyond successful advertising, giving rise to such pop culture icons as the famous Hathaway shirt man with his trademark black eyepatch. His client list runs the gamut from Rolls Royce to Sears Roebuck, Campbell's Soup to Merrill Lynch, IBM to the governments of Britain, France, and the United States. How did a young man who had known poverty as a child in England, worked as a cook in Paris, and once sold stoves to nuns in Scotland climb to the pinnacle of the......

Efficiency in Reaching the Millennium Development Goals (World Bank Working Paper)

Ruwan Jayasuriya, Quentin Wodon

Efficiency in Reaching the Millennium Development Goals (World Bank Working Paper) Ruwan Jayasuriya, Quentin Wodon To reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), countries (or states and provinces within countries) have two options: increasing the inputs used to To reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), countries (or states and provinces within countries) have two options: increasing the inputs used to "produce" the outcomes measured by the MDGs, or increasing the efficiency with which inputs are used. This study looks at whether improvements in efficiency could bring gains in outcomes. Two chapters use world panel data to analyze country level efficiency in improving education, health, and GDP (and thereby poverty) indicators. Two other chapters useprovince and state level data to analyze within-country efficiency in Argentina and Mexico for improving education and health outcomes. Together, the four chapters suggest that apart from increasing inputs, it is necessary to improve efficiency in order to reach the MDGs. While this conclusion is hardly surprising, the analysis helps to quantify how much progress could be achieved through better efficiency, and to some extent, how efficiency itself could be improved. This book is......

Beyond Microfoundations: Post Walrasian Macroeconomics

David Colander

Beyond Microfoundations: Post Walrasian Macroeconomics David Colander Beyond Microfoundations discusses the foundations for a post-Walrasian macroeconomics and, in doing so, carries the work of Robert Clower and Axel Leijonhufvud to the present. This book spells out both why a new approach to macro is needed, and what the essence of the approach will be. This post-Walrasian approach to macro is neither Keynesian nor Classical, both of which have Walrasian foundations, but it offers an approach to macro in which Walrasian economics is turned on its head. Specifically, it rejects the Walrasian ad hoc assumptions of the existence of a unique equilibrium and of simple dynamics. книги, книжный магазин, интернет-магазин Beyond Microfoundations discusses the foundations for a post-Walrasian macroeconomics and, in doing so, carries the work of Robert Clower and Axel Leijonhufvud to the present. The Economics of Social Insurance and Employee Benefits

Richard J. Butler

The Economics of Social Insurance and Employee Benefits Richard J. Butler The Economics of Social Insurance and Employee Benefits focuses on non-wage benefits paid to workers in the United States, covering both government-mandated and voluntarily provided benefits. The author argues that benefits affect workplace productivity, and concentrates on the economic thinking behind how to design non-wage benefits in order to achieve competitive advantage. Part I briefly introduces these programs and discusses some of the insurance and economic concepts that are useful both for evaluating current programs and in analyzing what changes might mean for future costs and benefits. Part II deals with mandated social insurance programs, while Part III discusses benefits voluntarily provided by employers. Throughout the book, private sector human resource practices and public sector human resource policies are linked to various benefit models: the human capital model; the passive participant model; the insurance model; the managed care model; and the integrated health... книги, книжный магазин, интернет-магазин The Economics of Social Insurance and Employee Benefits focuses on non-wage benefits paid to workers in the United States, covering both government-mandated and voluntarily provided benefits.
